Police arrested 25-year-old man in Tartu for threatening with gun-like object
A man was arrested in Tartu this afternoon on Ujula Street for threatening people with a gun-like object. A Taser was deployed twice during the arrest.

According to Delfi.ee, a man was arrested in Tartu today after threatening a person on Ujula Street with a gun-like object and aiming at arriving police officers.
The emergency call centre received a report at around 2 p.m. Patrol units, rapid response officers, negotiators and dog handlers with service dogs were dispatched to the scene. Police officers arrived within two minutes.
The man did not comply with the order to put down the weapon and continued aiming in the direction of police officers. The first Taser deployment had no effect, but the second one subdued the man — after which the 25-year-old was arrested.
Operatiivjuht Kert Kotkas of the Southern Police Prefecture noted that the situation was tense because the incident occurred in a crowded place. "Gun-related incidents are always the highest priority for police and we respond to them with significant force. Our goal was to resolve the situation as quickly and safely as possible so that no bystander would be injured. Fortunately this time the use of the Taser was sufficient and no one was harmed," said Kotkas.
According to initial assessment, the object may have been a starting pistol; the exact answer will become clear during examination. The precise circumstances of the incident are still being clarified.
