The Police and Border Guard Board (PPA) has admitted that it has obtained citizens' health data without their consent, writes Postimees. Previously, the authority claimed both to the newspaper and to the Ministry of Justice and Digitalisation that such queries are made only with the consent of the person in question.
The contradiction was brought to light by Sander Potisepp, an advocate at law firm Namm, who read Postimees's article of 27 May and was surprised by the denials from the prosecutor's office and the PPA. Following evidence sent by Potisepp, officials admitted that queries without consent had indeed been made.
A simple query enabling access to health data is currently legal. Justice and Digitalisation Minister Liisa Pakosta (Estonian 200) plans to eliminate this option urgently.
