A joint police operation against drug trafficking has resulted in 26 people arrested—including a Civil Guard officer—and the seizure of over 1,600 kilos of cocaine on Arnela beach, in the municipality of Muxía in A Coruña province. This is reported by diariodesantiago.es, citing sources from the investigation consulted by news agency EFE.
The investigation began in January 2025, following the discovery of a semi-submersible vessel on Os Muiños beach in Muxía, allegedly used to transport cocaine towards Spain via the Galician coast. Based on that discovery, investigators focused on a criminal organisation based in the Costa da Morte region, specialising in maritime drug trafficking of large quantities of narcotics.
Members of the group took advantage of isolated areas of the Galician coastline to carry out their operations. After several months of surveillance, officers detected that the organisation was preparing a new shipment by sea, this time using a high-speed vessel.
In the early hours of last Monday, security forces deployed a large operation on the A Coruña coast. The 26 arrested were apprehended when allegedly participating in the unloading of drugs on Arnela beach. In addition to the cocaine, officers seized a revolver and the fast boat used to transport the shipment to shore.
Among those arrested is a member of the Civil Guard, a fact that underscores the scale of the organisation's infiltration. The operation was carried out jointly by specialist units from the Civil Guard, the National Police and the Customs Surveillance Service, under the direction of the National Court.
