The National Police arrested 83 people and issued 391 offence records during the security operation at the Málaga Fair, held between 14 and 23 August, according to information provided by the institution in an official statement reported by theobjective.com.
Of the 391 offence records, 315 corresponded to violations related to drugs, with a notable increase in new-generation narcotic substances. A further 38 records resulted from cases of illegal possession of weapons.
Among the 83 arrested individuals, one was arrested for robbery with violence; nine for crimes against public health; seven for assault; nine for resistance and disobedience to officers; and ten for assault against law enforcement officers. Eight people were detained for crimes against sexual liberty, eight more for illegal possession of weapons, and seven for domestic abuse and gender-based violence. The remaining 14 arrests in this category corresponded to individuals wanted by the courts, whilst the rest related to other criminal offences.
Officers intervened in 126 brawls and carried out 136 humanitarian assistance operations throughout the fairground. The operation also included identification procedures and searches of personal belongings with the aim of locating those carrying bladed weapons and preventing fights or incidents from resulting in more serious consequences. According to the police, the seizure of weapons contributed to reinforcing security at the venue.
In total, over 2,000 officers deployed during the ten days of the fair carried out approximately 6,700 identity checks and monitored 110 vehicles. The operation also included 86 actions relating to private security, amongst them inspections and other procedures at the fairground's marquees.
