Property manager detained in Orihuela accused of defrauding two residents' associations

The National Police arrested a 45-year-old property manager in Orihuela as the suspected perpetrator of document falsification and fraud offences, according to activaorihuela.es. The investigation remains open owing to the possibility that there may be more victims or affected associations.

Police inquiries have determined, to date, a suspected misappropriation of more than €17,800 belonging to two property owners' associations that were under the management of the detainee. The financial loss amounts to more than €9,000 in one of the associations and more than €8,800 in the second.

The case began following complaints filed by representatives of both associations, who detected various irregularities in the financial management of their bank accounts. The investigation determined that the suspect had fraudulently cashed several bank cheques linked to those accounts, taking advantage of her position as property manager.

To carry out the fraudulent cashing, the suspect allegedly forged the signatures of the representatives of the property owners' associations. The offences are believed to have taken place over a period of approximately two years, coinciding with the time the woman was working as property manager of both properties.

After gathering sufficient evidence regarding her suspected involvement, officers proceeded with the arrest. The proceedings were referred to the Orihuela Court of First Instance acting as duty court.

The National Police note that the emergence of new victims or the discovery of other offences linked to the investigated activity cannot be ruled out.
