Andalusia accounts for 77% of hashish seized in Spain and 5,000 drug-related arrests

Andalusia remains the region with the highest volume of hashish and cocaine seizures across Spanish territory, according to eldiadecordoba.es, which cites the statistical report from the Intelligence Centre Against Terrorism and Organised Crime (Citco), an agency under the central government.
In 2025, security forces intercepted approximately 200 tonnes of hashish in the region, representing 77% of the total seized across the entire country. With regard to cocaine, Andalusia accounted for 25% of national seizures, with over 25,000 kilogrammes seized in a single year.
Arrests linked to drug trafficking fell compared to 2024, despite an increase in the number of reports. The total count reached 5,000 arrests, a quarter of all drug-related arrests in Spain.
Cádiz, Málaga, Seville, Huelva and Almería registered the largest increases in offences against public health. The intense police pressure exerted in the Campo de Gibraltar has displaced criminal activity towards other zones of Andalusian territory. Gang clashes, street settling of scores and murders linked to drugs clans—such as those recently recorded in Isla Cristina—are occurring with increasing frequency, with military-grade weapons also present.
There are no official figures on the economic impact of the business or on the number of people employed by these networks in the region. In money laundering alone, a black market worth billions of euros annually is estimated.
Faced with this scenario, public administrations have yet to approve a comprehensive action plan that addresses all dimensions of the problem with the urgency required. Security forces are calling for more resources and specialised personnel. The president of the Andalusian regional government sent a letter yesterday to the central government requesting the reactivation of the elite unit of OCON-Sur, appealing to the necessity of a "forceful" response.
