Murder in Almería: Police intensify investigation following death of municipal sanitation worker

Homicide with no arrests in Almería's industrial estate

The National Police have intensified their investigation into the shooting of Antonio Santiago Santiago, a municipal sanitation worker in Almería, which occurred on Wednesday in the industrial estate Sector 20, as confirmed on Friday by the Government delegate, José María Martín. Police operations began immediately, he stated.

The investigation includes taking statements from witnesses and collecting physical evidence to reconstruct the events and identify those responsible. No arrests have been made so far.

The victim received several gunshots at approximately 5:30 a.m. as he was heading to his vehicle after finishing his shift at the waste disposal point. A second emergency call reported that another person in the vicinity had been threatened at gunpoint by an individual who was leaving the scene.

Santiago was the brother of Juana Santiago, sentenced to 23 years in prison for the 2002 murder of seven-year-old girl Montserrat Fajardo in the Piedras Redondas neighbourhood. Juana Santiago was released from prison approximately two months ago after serving her sentence, according to the Almería Provincial Court.

The Government delegate has called for caution and discretion regarding police operations, declining to confirm whether the crime was a settling of scores, according to ondacero.es.
