A man was shot dead outside a police station in central Barcelona whilst Pope Leo XIV was visiting the city.

A shooting with one fatality took place in central Barcelona, just hours before Pope Leo XIV's arrival in the city. The victim, a man whose identity remains unknown, died after being shot in the vicinity of the police station in the Ciutat Vella district.
The incident occurred around 19:00 on Tuesday, on a narrow street near Nou de la Rambla. The assailant approached the victim and opened fire. Immediately after the crime, the gunman fled on foot. Police officers who attended the scene were unable to locate the alleged killer.
During the investigation, authorities found the perpetrator's weapon concealed inside a helmet, which had been placed beneath a seat at a bus stop. The identity of the deceased remains unknown, whilst the Mossos d'Esquadra are investigating the motives and the direction taken by the fugitive.
The homicide occurred amid strict security measures adopted in connection with the Pontiff's visit. Pope Leo XIV was expected to arrive in Barcelona a few hours later, for a two-day stay in the city.
