A 21-year-old man, champion of the Balearic Islands in mixed martial arts (MMA), was arrested on Thursday in the vicinity of Plaza del Tubo in Palma after allegedly deliberately crashing his motorcycle against a parked vehicle while waiting for his ex-partner to leave a nearby art school. According to okdiario.com, citing sources close to the case, the arrested man had an active restraining order against the young woman at the time of the incident.
The Local Police received several reports of the young man's presence in the area from approximately 11:00 hours onwards. According to the investigation, he remained near the educational centre for more than three hours, waiting for his ex-partner to finish classes. When officers from the Integral Security Unit (USEI) and the West District Unit arrived at the scene, the young man accelerated with his motorcycle and crashed against a parked vehicle. Following the impact, he got up from the ground with an injured arm and attempted to leave on foot. An off-duty police officer and a nurse who were in the vicinity managed to intercept him and detain him until the arrival of patrols. The incident occurred around 14:05 hours.

One of the aspects that most concerns investigators is the police risk assessment for the victim, which resulted in a score of 5 out of 5, the maximum contemplated in the protocol. The case is therefore classified as extreme risk. According to the young woman's account to officers, her ex-partner displays very aggressive behaviour and, in addition to his MMA training, possesses considerable physical strength which, according to her words, he does not hesitate to use. The victim handed over to investigators all the messages she had received from the young man.
During the morning prior to the incident, the arrested man allegedly sent threatening messages to his ex-partner in which he compelled her to return to him, warning that he would crash his motorcycle if she did not. He also allegedly drove in the wrong direction in the vicinity of Plaza del Tubo whilst waiting. All these messages have been incorporated into the police report.
Released on charges with electronic tag
Following the accident, the young man was transferred to a medical centre to receive attention for the injuries he had sustained. Once discharged, he was placed at the disposal of the courts. Given that, according to the sources consulted, this was allegedly the first time he had breached the restraining order, the detainee was released on charges, although subject to new control measures. These include the placement of an electronic monitoring bracelet and a prohibition from approaching within 500 metres of his ex-partner. The device will allow verification of compliance with the measure at all times. If the young man were to breach it again, he would be arrested immediately and, according to the same sources, could be remanded in Palma's prison.
The arrested man's mother threatened the victim with death before officers
The police report also records a particularly serious episode that occurred during the intervention. According to what is recorded in the proceedings and in the testimony of the officers, the arrested man's mother allegedly threatened the victim with death in the presence of the police. The investigators incorporated this fact into the report, along with the messages provided by the young woman which she attributes to her ex-partner.

Officers continue to carry out proceedings to determine the possible criminal liabilities arising from the facts, including breach of the restraining order, threats recorded in the messages, and the behaviour of the arrested man's mother during the police intervention.
