Municipal official from Almonte arrested for domestic violence
Santiago Miguel León Leal, councillor for Economy and Finance at Almonte Town Hall (Huelva), was arrested on suspicion of domestic abuse against his partner, according to reports from telecinco.es based on police sources consulted by Huelva24.
The alleged facts occurred on Sunday night in Matalascañas, the town where the arrest took place. The councillor, a member of the governing team Ilusiona, appeared before the court on Monday morning in a summary trial and was released on charges. The victim, who filed a complaint accompanied by a medical report of injuries, has been granted protective measures.
The Guardia Civil, when contacted by the media, declined to comment on the case. Almonte Town Hall also made no statement.
The councillor's arrest coincided with the holding of a municipal plenary session, which León Leal was unable to attend. His absence was noted by a significant number of members of the corporation, who learned during the session itself that it was linked to an alleged case of domestic violence.
The absence of the Finance councillor left Francisco Bella's governing team with only nine representatives to vote on the motions on the agenda, compared to eleven from the opposition. At around 14:00 hours, the mayor ordered the suspension of the plenary session due to indisposition of the municipal secretary, who is pregnant, a situation that has already occurred in previous plenary sessions.
