Sentence for assault on police
A court in Zaragoza has sentenced J. V. B. to nine months in prison for assaulting five National Police officers at Delicias station, according to heraldo.es. The incident occurred three years ago when he was asked to provide identification in the bus terminal area.
The accused resisted being detained following the identification. The five officers suffered abrasions, contusions and grazes; three of them were bitten. At trial, the defendant claimed to have been a victim of police abuse, asserting that "if a police officer puts their hand in my mouth, I would have the right to close it".
The judge rejected this defence. The sentence states that the accused acted "with clear disregard for the principle of authority", basing the conviction on facts verified during the proceedings.
