Mallorca man convicted of stabbing his partner 66 times in front of his two-year-old daughter
George Virgiliu Teianu was found guilty of the death of Rosario Díaz in December 2024, despite denying the charges and claiming self-defence.

Unanimous verdict for homicide in Palma
George Virgiliu Teianu, a 42-year-old Romanian citizen, was found guilty this week of the death of his partner, Rosario Díaz, whom he stabbed 66 times on 10 December 2024. According to Majorca Daily Bulletin, the jury unanimously rejected the accused's claim of self-defence.
Teianu, subject to a restraining order, persuaded Díaz to meet him at 14:30 hours when she was going to pick up one of their daughters, nearly two years old, from a nursery in Arenal. The woman arrived in a Peugeot 107; he drove while she sat in the passenger seat and the child was in the back. His driving was erratic and very slow. Near Camí de Can Pastilla, he pulled out a 15-centimetre knife he was carrying concealed and began to stab Díaz. He continued driving until he crashed into the back of another vehicle in front of a Mercadona supermarket. He got out of the car and fled, leaving his daughter with her mother's body.
Accused's statement at trial
During the jury trial in Palma, Teianu testified that Díaz attacked him first inside the vehicle. "We started to argue; she hit me on the head and shoulder. Then she pulled out a knife and cut me. I took it from her and lost control. I had the devil inside me. I swear to God, it wasn't me at that moment," he declared to the court.
He expressed remorse repeatedly, describing Díaz as "a wonderful person and a good mother". He explained that she was going to drive him to the airport; he had planned to move to Tenerife. Teianu insisted that the incident was not "murder" and invoked the Criminal Code, arguing that it could not be because he had not planned anything. "I acted in self-defence". He added that he had substance abuse problems: "I hadn't slept for two or three days and was using drugs, cocaine and cannabis".
Rejection of self-defence
The jury spokesperson stated that "the attack began suddenly and unexpectedly whilst the woman was in the passenger seat of the vehicle. The small size of the car, a Peugeot 107, made it impossible for her to defend herself". The verdict was unanimous that Teianu caused Díaz's death.
The prosecution and a private prosecutor have requested a 27-year sentence for homicide, breach of a restraining order and injuries in a domestic context. The judge will impose the sentence in the coming days. The defence has requested the minimum possible sentence according to the facts established during the trial.
