Truck driver arrested for drink-driving after six-car crash on MA-13, five injured
A multiple collision involving a lorry and six cars on the MA-13 motorway in Palma left five people injured on Thursday. The driver tested positive in an alcohol breathalyser test.

A multiple collision between a lorry and six cars on the MA-13 motorway in Palma left five people injured on Thursday morning, two of them seriously. The Civil Guard subsequently arrested the lorry driver, a 63-year-old man of South American origin, after he tested positive in a breathalyser test.
According to the Majorca Daily Bulletin, SAMU 061 received the emergency call at 08:45, when several witnesses reported the collision at kilometre 1 of the Palma-Inca motorway, on the outskirts of the capital. Emergency personnel from 061, Local Police, National Police and Fire Services were dispatched to the scene.
Two of those involved required stabilisation at the scene of the accident before being transferred. The five injured were distributed among different hospitals on Mallorca: one was taken to Son Espases, two to Son Llàtzer and another two to Juaneda. A further 12 people involved in the accident were unharmed.
To treat the injured, 061 deployed ambulances equipped with Advanced Life Support, Advanced Life Support with nursing staff and Basic Life Support, as well as a logistics vehicle and a command vehicle.
The lorry collided with several vehicles, blocking the centre and right lanes of the motorway and causing traffic jams of up to four kilometres. The scene was cleared in the course of the morning.
Officers who attended the scene observed obvious signs of alcohol intoxication in the lorry driver and subjected him to a breathalyser test. Sources close to the investigation confirmed to Europa Press that the result was positive, suggesting that the driver may have lost control of the vehicle due to his state of intoxication.
The detainee, 63 years old and of South American origin, was arrested on suspicion of offences against road safety and serious disobedience. The Civil Guard's Traffic Unit has opened an investigation to determine the exact circumstances of the accident.
