Drunk driver hits 85-year-old pensioner in Salamanca and flees: arrested
An 85-year-old man was knocked down and left unconscious on Comuneros avenue in Salamanca. The driver fled, but was located minutes later by municipal cameras.
Drunk driver flees after hitting octogenarian in Salamanca
Salamanca Local Police detained a driver on Sunday who, under the influence of alcohol, hit an 85-year-old man and fled the scene, according to ABC.
The collision occurred at 7.00 hours at number 113 Comuneros avenue. A car struck the pedestrian, who was left unconscious on the road, after which the driver abandoned the location without providing assistance.
The emergency service 1-1-2 received the alert and requested medical assistance for the injured party. Simultaneously, it alerted the National Police, Local Police and Emergency Health Services – Sacyl, which deployed resources to the scene. The octogenarian was transported to Salamanca Hospital in a mobile intensive care unit.
In parallel, a search for the driver was activated. Municipal surveillance cameras allowed him to be located within minutes. When officers arrived to proceed with his detention, he was given a breathalyser test which returned a positive result, according to municipal sources.
