Anti-drug operation in A Pobra: four arrested and more than 1,500 kilograms of cocaine seized
The National Police arrested four people in A Pobra do Caramiñal and seized more than 1,500 kilogrammes of cocaine on Saturday as part of an operation against drug trafficking, according to diariodearousa.elidealgallego.com. The intervention lasted from the early morning until late afternoon.
The operation was carried out mainly by the Special Response Groups against Organised Crime (Greco), in collaboration with the Central Drugs Squad (Udyco). During the day, officers concentrated searches in an area near Conchido beach, on the border with the municipality of Boiro. The shipment was removed from a shed located in front of a residence near the sandy beach.
The operation remains ongoing, so both the number of those arrested and the amount of drugs seized could change in the final report.
Sources consulted by Europa Press indicate that the investigation could be related to the gang known as "Los Fanchos", an organisation dismantled in 2021 during Operation Arantes, promoted by the Organised Crime and Anti-Drug Team (EDOA) of the Civil Guard Command in A Coruña. The available evidence points to a possible reoffence by the group in their criminal activity.
Earlier this month another anti-drug operation took place in Muxía, also in the province of A Coruña, with 26 arrested—23 of them in preventative detention—including a Civil Guard officer. In that intervention, more than 1,600 kilograms of cocaine were seized when the drug was being unloaded on Arnela beach.
