Arrested in Ceuta for transporting hidden migrant to Algeria
National Police detained a Moroccan man on Saturday at Ceuta Port after locating a migrant concealed in a compartment built beneath the seats of his vehicle. According to El Confidencial, the man intended to board a ferry bound for Algeciras with his clandestine passenger.
Officers detected the modified compartment during a routine inspection at the vehicle control checkpoint for the Ceuta-Algeciras ferry. The migrant was hidden inside with the intention of evading mandatory document control.
The arrest took place as part of a reinforced operation in the port area, deployed following the mass arrival of migrants on 30 and 31 July. The objective of this reinforcement is to control irregular departures towards the peninsula.
After locating the migrant, officers provided assistance and proceeded to arrest the driver as the suspected perpetrator of a crime of facilitating illegal immigration. Administrative procedures were initiated regarding the irregular status of the passenger found.
