Officers of the National Police have arrested in Algeciras a 30-year-old man with a police record as the suspected author of a crime of arson endangering human life. According to ondacadiz.es, the fire started inside a hotel establishment in the town and forced the evacuation of 206 guests.
The events took place in the morning of 30 June, at around 06.30 hours. The fire broke out when the hotel was housing 206 people. The swift intervention of officers from the Citizen Security unit of the National Police made it possible to coordinate the immediate evacuation of all occupants without any serious personal injuries being recorded.
Once the flames had been extinguished, specialists from the Scientific Police Brigade carried out a technical-police inspection of the scene in order to gather evidence and determine the origin of the fire. The analysis of the evidence collected, together with subsequent investigations, made it possible to conclude that the fire had been deliberately caused, according to the Police in an official statement.
In parallel, officers from the Specialised and Violent Crime Unit (UDEV II) of the Judicial Police Brigade of the Local Police Station in Algeciras took over the investigation to clarify the circumstances of the incident and identify those responsible.
During the following weeks, investigators carried out various operational and witness-related procedures that made it possible to fully identify the suspected perpetrator of the facts. Once located, he was arrested as the suspected perpetrator of the crime of arson endangering human life.
The detainee, along with the police proceedings carried out, has been placed at the disposal of the competent judicial authority.
