The Guardia Civil arrested a 62-year-old man on 17 August in the car park of a leisure venue in Chiva, Valencia, during the main days of celebrations of the municipality's patron saint festivals. According to eldebate.com, the arrested man was carrying almost 20 grams of cocaine, approximately 100 grams of hashish, several MDMA tablets, 140 euros in cash and a pen-pistol loaded with 22-calibre ammunition.

A patrol that was in the vicinity of the car park observed the individual acting evasively. Upon noticing the presence of the officers, the man threw a rucksack behind a vehicle. Inside the bag, the Guardia Civil found all the seized items, including the concealed weapon.

After proceeding to his arrest, the detainee physically resisted. One of the officers was injured during the struggle and subsequently received treatment at a health centre.

The inspection of a vehicle linked to the arrested man, carried out in the presence of the detainee and his solicitor, allowed officers to locate a second pen-pistol along with further 22-calibre ammunition. In total, the Guardia Civil seized three cartridges.

The Spanish national is facing charges of a crime against public health, unlawful possession of weapons and serious resistance to authority. The operation was carried out by officers from the Chiva Main Station, a locality which is among the areas most severely affected by the storm that hit the Valencian Community.
