Arrested wearing Batman mask after assaulting shop in Corralejo

The Guardia Civil detained a man in Corralejo (Fuerteventura) as the suspected perpetrator of a breaking and entering robbery at a commercial establishment on Poseidón street, according to ABC. The suspect acted disguised with a mask of the comic book character Batman, black boots, ochre-coloured trousers and a black hooded sweatshirt.

The incident took place in the early hours of 12 August, when the Central Operational Services (COS) received a report of a possible robbery at the premises. A patrol was sent to the location and confirmed that the entrance door and one side of the establishment showed damage consistent with broken glass.

The officers ascertained that the till had been taken, which contained approximately 500 euros, and estimated material damage at 750 euros.

Images from the shop's security cameras showed a person dressed as the superhero. Based on that information, officers located an individual in the vicinity whose clothing matched that recorded in the video. During the investigation, additional evidence was obtained that allowed him to be allegedly linked to the robbery.

The detainee subsequently led officers to the place where he had hidden the mask used during the assault, as well as the hammer allegedly used to break the glass. The till was also recovered, along with 253 euros of the money it contained.

The arrested man was placed at the disposal of the Duty Court in Puerto del Rosario.
