Passenger arrested at El Prat with 31 kilos of cocaine from Mexico

The National Police detained a passenger at Barcelona-El Prat airport who was transporting 31.093 kilograms of cocaine distributed between two suitcases, according to information released by the police force on Monday. This was reported by elperiodico.com.

The traveller had arrived on a flight from Mexico City, a route known in police terminology as a "hot flight" due to the frequency with which its passengers are used by criminal organisations to introduce drugs into Spain and other European countries.

During routine passenger controls, officers noticed that the man displayed nervous behaviour and answered with hesitation to questions from officials. This conduct led the police to transfer him to the facilities of the Customs Service of the Tax Agency, where a thorough search of his luggage was carried out.

Inside each suitcase, 26 tablets of a whitish and compact substance were found. Tests using drug-test reagents gave a positive result for cocaine, with a total weight of 31.093 kilograms.

The detainee was charged with an offence against public health. The judicial authority subsequently ordered his remand in custody.
