Arrested after setting fire to both sides of a road on the outskirts of Granada

The National Police arrested a 35-year-old man as the suspected perpetrator of an arson offence on the outskirts of Granada, according to Google News ES — Crime. The arrest was made possible thanks to the cooperation of two citizens who witnessed the events and pursued the suspect in their vehicle while filming him on their mobile phone.

The incident occurred around one o'clock in the morning on a road on the outskirts of the city. Several police units assigned to the North district were sent to the scene after learning that a fire was occurring in the area.

During the journey to the location, officers received information through the CIMACC-091 Emergency Room about the existence of two witnesses who had seen a man setting fire to both sides of the road. When caught off guard, the man fled on a moped towards Granada. The two citizens followed him in their car whilst recording the scene on a mobile phone, until the fugitive entered the North district driving recklessly and running several red traffic lights, which made it impossible to continue the pursuit.

The witnesses handed the recording over to the officers, who were able to determine the suspect's possible address and travelled there. In a landscaped area, behind some hedges, they located both the moped and the individual himself. During an inspection of his belongings, officers found, among other items, two lighters and a mobile phone.

Based on this evidence, he was arrested as the suspected perpetrator of an arson offence. The detainee had no previous police record and has already been brought before the judicial authority.

The fire service, once the fire was extinguished, reported that the affected area was between 200 and 300 square metres.
