Local police in Ingenio detained a man identified as I.E.R.M., aged 43 and from Artenara, in the early hours of Thursday to Friday, 18 September, accused of a series of vehicle thefts committed in various municipalities in Gran Canaria, particularly in the north and south-east of the island. This is reported by canarias7.es.

The arrest took place at around 04.30 hours in the La Pastrana area, following an alert from a citizen who spotted the suspect loitering around parked cars on a public street. The man managed to open two or three vehicles before municipal officers arrived at the scene.

According to police sources in Ingenio, the detainee operated with a large van that was seized during the arrest. Inside it, a large amount of stolen material was found, mainly tools. The same sources indicate that the individual used more sophisticated techniques than the usual method of breaking a window to access the interior of vehicles.

The arrestee, who already had a criminal record for fraud and theft, among other crimes, was handed over to the Guardia Civil, the force responsible in the municipality of Ingenio for processing this type of proceedings before the court.
