Three shots and a debt of 150 euros: man arrested in Ourense for attempted homicide

The Citizen Security Brigade of Spain's National Police in Ourense arrested a local resident aged 33 on Sunday as the alleged perpetrator of attempted homicide. According to laregion.es, the incident occurred on the border between the O Vinteún and A Ponte neighbourhoods, when the suspect fired three times at a 31-year-old man of Dominican origin. None of the bullets hit the victim.

The conflict originated shortly before five in the morning in a pub on Ramón Cabanillas street. The victim, who was in the establishment with some friends, was about to pay 150 euros for a bottle when the arrested man snatched the money from him. In the argument that followed, 100 euros fell to the ground and the accused retained 50 in his hand. The Dominican citizen took the opportunity to pick up the notes from the floor and take the rest from him.

It was at that moment that the arrested man allegedly insulted the victim, calling him a "nobody" whilst the victim returned to his table, and issued him with a warning: "We live near here".

Ambush on leaving the taxi

The threat materialised less than two hours later. The victim returned to his home, located near Río Arnoia street, by taxi. As he approached his house, between six and seven in the morning, he spotted a white Hyundai parked in suspicious circumstances. From the vehicle descended the same man with whom he had had the altercation in the pub, who according to the victim told him: "I'm going to kill you".

The victim then took out a knife. The suspect returned to the interior of the car, took a pistol and fired at him three times. The bullets did not reach the Dominican citizen, who ran away and took shelter behind some bins. The alleged shooter made several passes in the car around the area trying to locate him, without success.

Seven patrols and an arrest near Local Police headquarters

Residents who heard the shots alerted the police and provided a description of the vehicle involved. Officers attended the scene, took a statement from the victim and obtained the name of the suspect, whom the victim knew previously.

Shortly afterwards, a patrol intercepted a Hyundai with the characteristics described at a roundabout known as "de los colorines", located next to the headquarters of the Local Police in the city. Two occupants were travelling in the vehicle. The name of one of them matched that provided by the victim, so officers proceeded with his arrest. Several witnesses present at the moment of arrest reported that seven police patrols were deployed in the area.

The arrested man has numerous police records and is not unknown to the state security forces and bodies. After being arrested, he was taken to the cells of the Provincial Police Station of Spain's National Police, in the As Lagoas neighbourhood, pending being brought before a court once the corresponding proceedings are concluded.
