A deliberate fire destroyed two jet skis and a car in the early hours of 13 July in an industrial unit in es Molinar, in Palma. According to diariodemallorca.es, the National Police have detained the suspected perpetrator a month after the incident.
The fire started in the jet skis, which belonged to a rental company, and spread rapidly, charring the trailer on which they were resting and a parked vehicle beside them. The flames also caused serious damage to the metal roof, façade, windows and walls of the premises.
The business owner filed a complaint suspecting that the fire had been intentional. He noted that days earlier, he had had a dispute with customers to whom he had rented the jet skis: when they returned them damaged, the company retained their deposit.
The National Police's Robbery Unit took over the investigation and confirmed the fire was deliberately set. After several weeks of inquiries, officers managed to place one of the people who had rented the jet skis at the scene during that early morning.
With the evidence gathered, the suspect was arrested as the alleged perpetrator of a crime of damages caused by arson.
