Man arrested in Palma for setting fire to jet ski rental business following dispute over deposit
A Spanish national was arrested for causing a fire at a jet ski rental business in Palma. The fire destroyed two jet skis, a trailer and a private car.
Fire deliberately set at jet ski rental business in El Molinar
The National Police arrested a man for allegedly setting fire to a jet ski rental business in Palma de Mallorca, according to elmundo.es. The detainee, a Spanish national, had been a customer of the business.
The incident occurred in the early hours of 13 August, in the car park area of a warehouse located in the El Molinar neighbourhood, confirmed by the Balearic Islands Superior Police Command.
The fire spread into the interior of the warehouse and destroyed two jet skis and a trailer owned by the company, as well as a private individual's vehicle. The flames also caused damage to the metal roof, the façade, the windows and the walls of the property.
The business owner filed a complaint with the National Police. According to his account, days earlier he had had a conflict with some customers who returned the jet skis with damage, which is why he did not refund their deposit.
Officers from the Robbery Squad determined that the fire had been deliberately set and identified one of the customers involved in that incident at the scene. The suspect was arrested as the alleged perpetrator of a crime of damage caused by arson.
