Preventive custody for arson

A 34-year-old man has been remanded in preventive custody after setting fire to a motorhome in the Son Hugo car park in Palma, according to Majorca Daily Bulletin. The fire occurred on Wednesday shortly before 13:00 hours and affected three other vehicles, leaving one of them partially damaged.

The detainee set fire to the motorhome of a man who had assaulted his partner. While the woman received medical attention, she contacted her husband to tell him what had happened; he went immediately to the scene and set the vehicle alight in retaliation. The National Police located the alleged perpetrator hours later when he was leaving the area; the man had changed his clothes when leaving the car park.

During the fire, one person suffered burns to an arm while attempting to move a vehicle to prevent it from being caught by the flames. The fire was contained but caused significant damage to the car park area.
