Young man arrested in Burgos after video with bomb threats goes viral
The Guardia Civil arrested a 25-year-old man in Salas de los Infantes, a town in Burgos province, on Wednesday after he posted a video on social networks in which he threatened to detonate an explosive device in the town on 5 November, according to burgosconecta.es.
The video went viral among residents, prompting officers from the local Guardia Civil post to go to the young man's home at around 11 in the morning to proceed with his arrest as the suspected perpetrator of a serious threats offence.
Rather than cooperate, the young man fled the residence and barricaded himself in a storage room, threatening to set off an explosive device that he allegedly operated using a remote control connected to some cables. The situation forced authorities to cordon off the area and deploy a negotiating officer, who after approximately two hours managed to convince him to surrender.
The detainee was taken to Guardia Civil premises in the Burgos capital in late morning. He will appear before the courts in Salas de los Infantes as the suspected perpetrator not only of serious threats but also of public disorder and resisting authority.
Tedax officers also travelled to the town to analyse the alleged device. The specialists concluded that it was a simulated device with no real explosive capacity.
Sources from the Armed Institute confirmed that the arrested man has several previous police records in Salas de los Infantes.
