Man arrested in Santurtzi for three violent robberies of elderly victims in Durango
A 22-year-old man was arrested in Santurtzi after attacking elderly people in Durango to steal gold chains from them. He has been remanded in custody following his appearance before a judge.

A 22-year-old man has been arrested in Santurtzi on suspicion of committing three violent robberies against elderly people in the Biscay municipality of Durango, according to ertzaintza.euskadi.eus. The arrestee, a recidivist with multiple outstanding warrants from various courts, has been remanded in custody following his appearance before the Durango on-call judge. A 19-year-old accomplice, identified in one of the robberies, remains under investigation.
The three incidents occurred between 25 August and 5 September. In the first, the perpetrator approached an 82-year-old woman who was alone in Ibaizabal park in Durango in the afternoon of 25 August, forcibly snatched a gold chain from her neck and pushed her; the victim fell to the ground and was injured.
The following day, on 26 August, the same individual returned to Ibaizabal park accompanied by an accomplice. Both violently stole a gold chain with two pendants from an 85-year-old man who was sitting on a bench, and then fled towards the railway station.
The third robbery took place on 5 September on a street in the Ensanche district of Durango. The perpetrator forcibly pulled a chain from around the neck of a 78-year-old woman.
The investigation, carried out by the Durango Ertzain-etxea, determined that the perpetrator left the municipality immediately after each assault to make his location more difficult to determine. The inquiries made it possible to identify him as a recidivist offender. Cooperation between Ertzaintza officers from the Durango and Muskiz demarcations made it possible to locate and arrest him yesterday in Santurtzi.
The arrestee, of Maghrebi origin, has four previous arrests by the Ertzaintza. His accomplice in the second robbery, also of Maghrebi origin and with six previous arrests, has likewise been identified and is listed as under investigation in the opened proceedings.
