Spain's National Police have arrested a 51-year-old man at Seville airport on suspicion of drug trafficking, according to diariodesevilla.es. Officers discovered that he was concealing close to one and a half kilogrammes of cocaine inside his body, distributed across more than one hundred capsules.
The operation is part of the so-called Operation Conakry, a police initiative aimed at preventing and combating the introduction of narcotics through Seville airport.
The individual was travelling from Guinea Conakry and had made a stopover in Morocco. During routine checks, police detected indicators suggesting that the passenger could be transporting drugs inside his body. Given their suspicions, he was taken to a hospital to undergo radiological tests, which confirmed the presence of the capsules.
The detainee remained hospitalised until the process of expelling the capsules was completed, given the serious risk to life that this method of transport entails. Once the process was finished, the contents were verified to be cocaine, with a total weight close to one and a half kilogrammes.
After police proceedings were concluded, the man was brought before judicial authorities, who ordered his remand in custody.
