The National Police detained a 51-year-old man at Seville airport after confirming that he was transporting approximately one and a half kilograms of cocaine inside his body, distributed in more than one hundred capsules, according to eleconomista.es.
The man had arrived from Guinea Conakry with a stopover in Morocco. During routine checks of the police operation established to combat drug trafficking at Seville airport, officers detected signs suggesting that the passenger could be transporting substances inside his body.
Faced with suspicions, the detainee was taken to a hospital centre to undergo radiological tests, which confirmed the presence of the capsules. The operation is part of what is termed 'Operation Conakry', according to a statement from the Armed Institute reported by Europa Press.
The man remained hospitalised until the process of expelling all the capsules was completed, given the serious risk to life posed by this method of transport. The substances were subsequently analysed and confirmed to be cocaine, with a total weight of approximately one and a half kilograms.
Once police proceedings were completed, the detainee was made available to the judicial authority, which ordered his remand in custody.
