Arrest for possession of prohibited weapon in Villava

Officers from the Foral Police and Local Police of Villava have arrested a man accused of carrying an electroshock weapon attached to a knuckleduster during an altercation in a heavily frequented leisure area. According to El Confidencial, the incident occurred around 3 in the morning on 11 October, in the context of a special security operation deployed for the patron saint festivities, in which National Police officers also participated.

The Foral Police explained that officers intercepted the detainee after he brandished and activated the electroshock weapon in front of a group of people, disturbing the peace of the place. According to witness statements collected by police, no large-scale fight took place. The detainee had drawn the prohibited weapon to defend himself following a previous assault he had suffered.

After his arrest, the man was taken to the central offices of the Foral Police in Pamplona. As he had a known address, he was released once the proceedings of the Northern Judicial Police Brigade were completed. The matter was referred to the corresponding judicial authority.

The Foral Police publicly reminded the public that possession, display or use of prohibited weapons such as knuckledusters, electric stun devices or unauthorised blades in public spaces, leisure areas or large public events constitutes a serious offence against collective security with criminal consequences. The offence typified in article 563 of the Criminal Code punishes possession of prohibited weapons with imprisonment of one to three years. Electric stun devices for private individuals are explicitly classified as prohibited weapons under the Arms Regulations.
