Arrest for cable theft in Vitoria-Gasteiz
Officers from the Ertzaintza detained a 44-year-old Spanish national after removing copper cable from a residential building in the Salburua district of Vitoria-Gasteiz. According to ertzaintza.euskadi.eus, the suspect was carrying several tools and two knives, an offence aggravated by a court order that prohibited him from carrying weapons.
Around 01:30 on Tuesday, a civic protection patrol was alerted to the presence of an individual loitering inside the building. Upon locating him in the entrance hall, officers found two knives in his rucksack, three pliers, a screwdriver, cut cable and several keys for opening locks.
The door to the electrical room was forced, several electrical panels were open and a grounding cable was missing, which matched the cable the detainee was carrying in his rucksack. The suspect also had a pending judicial warrant for arrest and presentation before a court in the Álava capital.
He is accused of crimes of theft with force, breach of judicial order for carrying prohibited weapons and a prior detention warrant. After completing police procedures, he was placed at the disposal of the judiciary on the same day of his detention.
