Mogán Local Police detained a man as the alleged perpetrator of an offence against public health for selling cocaine at Puerto Rico shopping centre, located in the municipality of Mogán, Gran Canaria. According to canariasenpleno.com, the arrest took place on the evening of Wednesday 9 September, at around 22:00 hours.
Officers were taking part in a police operation deployed in that shopping and leisure area with the aim of preventing drug trafficking when they observed what appeared to be a drugs transaction. After identifying the people involved, they located a wrapper that the buyer acknowledged contained cocaine and which, he stated, he had just purchased for 40 euros.
The alleged seller was found to be in possession of 815 euros in cash, which were seized by Local Police. The exact weight of the substance found was not specified.
The detainee was taken to police premises for the processing of the corresponding proceedings and subsequently handed over to the Guardia Civil, which will assume judicial proceedings.
Mogán Town Council, following this arrest, recalled the importance of public cooperation with the authorities to eradicate this type of activity in areas of high footfall.
