Detention for unlawful possession of weapons in Albacete
Officers from the Aguas Nuevas Civil Guard Post arrested two minors from Albacete after locating a .22 calibre rifle inside a car, according to El Confidencial. The weapon, which had been reported as stolen since March 2023, was travelling concealed along with a loaded magazine containing ten cartridges and additional ammunition.
A Citizen Security patrol detected the vehicle circulating in the vicinity of the Campollano industrial estate, on the Las Iniestas road. After ordering the stop and verifying that two minors were travelling in the car accompanied by other persons, the behaviour of the occupants aroused suspicion among the officers.
During the search of the vehicle, Civil Guard officers found the rifle camouflaged between the chassis and the rear seats, along with a spent cartridge case and scattered cartridges. Subsequent checks in the police database confirmed that the weapon was reported as stolen, with a prior complaint for the theft.
Both minors claimed responsibility for possession of the weapon during interrogation. The Civil Guard proceeded with their detention as suspected perpetrators of unlawful weapons possession and theft with force against property. The weapon, ammunition, and seized items were placed at the disposal of the competent authority for further proceedings.
The proceedings conducted have been sent to the Minors' Public Prosecutor's Office in Albacete, which ordered the release of both minors into the custody of their parents. The operation falls within the Provincial Plan against poaching and the comprehensive firearms control plan "Picaf", aimed at preventing unlawful weapons trafficking. The Civil Guard stressed that the acquisition or possession of firearms outside legal channels constitutes a criminal offence, regardless of its intended use.
