Two remanded in custody for attacking off-duty Civil Guard officer in Ceuta
An off-duty Civil Guard officer in plain clothes was assaulted for cash at a petrol station near Ceuta port after refusing to hand over money. The judge has ordered pre-trial detention for the two adult suspects arrested.

The investigating judge handling the case has ordered the remand in custody of two adult detainees for their alleged involvement in a robbery with violence against a Civil Guard officer off duty in Ceuta, according to El Mundo.
The incident took place at 04.30 hours on the past Sunday at a petrol station near the Port of Ceuta. Several young people approached the officer with the intention of intimidating him and stealing money from him. When he refused to hand it over, the Civil Guard officer was struck with blows, kicks and punches, after which the assailants fled the area.
The officer immediately alerted the National Police Force. A patrol deployed to the scene located the two suspects a few minutes later at separate points in a nearby area, where several retail outlets are concentrated.
The Unified Association of Civil Guards (AUGC) confirmed through a statement that both the Public Prosecutor's Office and the private prosecution—exercised by the AUGC itself—jointly requested pre-trial detention. The prosecutor based his request on the seriousness of the robbery with violence offence, the sentence provided for in the abstract, and the lack of ties of the detainees to the autonomous city.
The private prosecution adhered to the prosecutor's request and expanded the charges. According to the AUGC, the conduct of the detainees "also constitutes an assault on a person in authority, a minor injury offence and a crime of resistance against the National Police officers who carried out the arrest".
Both will remain in pre-trial detention awaiting trial.
