Arrest for fuel theft in Logroño
Officers from the National Police arrested two people in Logroño who were caught siphoning diesel from a lorry parked in an industrial estate, according to a report by El Confidencial. A security guard alerted the CIMACC-091 room after observing two individuals acting suspiciously next to a warehouse in the complex.
The detainees had cut part of the perimeter fence to gain access to the industrial estate, where they were extracting fuel from the lorry. Several police units deployed immediately to the location. Upon arrival, officers ordered one of the individuals to stop, but he ignored the orders and ran towards a vehicle where his accomplice was waiting.
The driver initiated a high-speed escape, triggering a police pursuit. Two patrol cars coordinatedly blocked the route of the vehicle, preventing them from continuing. After removing both occupants from the vehicle and carrying out the necessary checks, they were arrested.
During the operation, police confirmed that the vehicle was registered in the name of a person serving a sentence in a prison centre. Inside it they found several jerry cans with characteristics similar to those used to contain the fuel allegedly stolen. Officers also observed that several vehicles parked in the vicinity had their fuel tank caps removed, a matter that was subject to police investigation.
The quick communication from the security guard and the immediate police response allowed them to intercept the alleged perpetrators as they were leaving the scene, preventing them from continuing with the operation.
