Nighttime assault in tourist zone
Two British brothers on holiday in Mallorca were arrested after perpetrating a violent assault against a taxi driver in Palmanova. According to reporting by The Olive Press, the incident occurred in the early hours of Wednesday at around 2.30 a.m. at a taxi rank on Passeig Mar, in the municipality of Calvià.
The older brother, aged 31, remains in prison with bail set at €15,000 by the Palma court, whilst his 21-year-old brother was released after being tried. Both face charges of violent assault.
Course of events
The two brothers, from the Bolton area in Greater Manchester and staying at the Sol Hotel in Palmanova, approached the taxi rank visibly intoxicated. The younger brother first verbally accosted two female taxi drivers who refused to take him, whilst a male driver also refused given the state of both men.
The situation escalated when one of the brothers spat at one of the taxi drivers and punched him. A colleague of the assaulted driver attempted to calm the situation but was struck in the face. The older attacker continued hitting the first victim, causing him serious facial injuries and the loss of several teeth.
Civil Guard intervention
Eyewitnesses contacted the police. Several Civil Guard patrols arrived at the scene and arrested both brothers. They were taken before a Palma court a few hours later, where decisions were made regarding their imprisonment and conditional release.
