Gandia: Man sentenced to 3 years for drug trafficking with 600 grams of cocaine
According to levante-emv.com, a 46-year-old man has been sentenced to three years in prison for drug trafficking following a police check in Gandia. The National Police arrested him in January 2025 as he drove along Rafelcofer Street in an Audi A3 shortly after nine in the evening. The initial search revealed a tablet of hashish in his underwear and €6,000 in a handbag.
Officers then conducted an exhaustive search of the vehicle. In the spare wheel compartment they located a block of cocaine weighing almost 600 grams, wrapped in cling film along with €43,875 in notes. Subsequent analysis determined that the block had high purity and an approximate value of €64,000. The hashish tablet weighed 45 grams and was valued at €300.
The search was extended to the defendant's home in Gandia. Officers found a money-counting machine in the storage room, packaging equipment in the laundry area, and a further €10,000 in notes in the bedroom. The two substances were intended for distribution, and the money seized came from previous sales of narcotics to third parties.
The defendant has an extensive criminal record. He was sentenced in 2009 to six years in prison for drug trafficking, a sentence he completed in 2014. He also has previous convictions for speeding and driving under the influence of alcohol.
The court considered that at the time of the events the defendant was a user of cocaine and cannabis, circumstances that slightly altered his criminal responsibility. It applied an aggravating factor of recidivism and a mitigating factor of acting under the effects of his addiction. The sentence imposes three years in prison and a fine of €65,000.
However, the Second Section of the Valencia Provincial Court agreed to suspend the execution of the sentence for a period of five years. The suspension is conditional on him not committing further offences, appearing for court summonses, remaining traceable, and continuing with the detoxification treatment in which he is enrolled. The court warns that breach of these conditions may worsen or revoke the suspension, obliging him to serve the prison sentence. The sentence is final and not subject to appeal.
