Blow against Os Fanchos clan in A Pobra: 1,500 kilos of cocaine and four arrested
The GRECO unit of the National Police seized approximately 1,500 kilos of cocaine in A Pobra do Caramiñal and arrested at least two people. The drug was ready for distribution.
Anti-drug operation in A Pobra do Caramiñal yields 1,500 kilos of cocaine seized
Faro de Vigo reports on a new police operation against drug trafficking in Galicia: officers from the Special Response Group against Organised Crime (GRECO) of the National Police acted this early morning in the municipality of A Pobra do Caramiñal and seized approximately 1,500 kilos of cocaine. At least two people were arrested, although final figures are pending official confirmation.
The operation deployed a large team of officers and police vehicles, including some unmarked ones, which conducted searches in the A Ribeiriña area. According to Europa Press, operations also extended to an area close to Conchido beach, very near the town hall of Boiro. With the operation still ongoing at the time this information was published, both the number of arrests and the amount of drug seized could increase.
The cocaine was found in a room of a property situated on the waterfront. Various sources point to the arrested individuals belonging to the Os Fanchos clan, a family group well known to law enforcement and dedicated, according to those same sources, to the introduction, storage and distribution of drugs for years. Everything indicates that the shipment was ready to be distributed. Officers from the National Police in Pontevedra and from the Ribeira police station participated in the operation.
One of the clan leaders already served a sentence: he was sentenced in February 2012 to nine years in prison for his participation in an express kidnapping and torture of a former councillor from A Illa de Arousa in 2006, a sentence that was later reduced to four years.
Context: a Galician coast with several recent operations
The operation in A Pobra adds to a series of police operations on the Galician coast in recent months. In September 2025, also in A Pobra do Caramiñal, GRECO intercepted over 3,600 kilos of cocaine following an unloading on Cabío beach, a shipment that, according to investigators, arrived aboard a narco-submarine. That operation ended with 17 arrests, three of them of South American origin.
On 10 August, an operation in Muxía resulted in 26 arrests—including a Guardia Civil officer—and over 1,600 kilos of cocaine seized during an unloading on Arnela beach. Those investigated were part of a criminal structure responsible for introducing large shipments into Spain by high-speed vessels. That investigation began in January 2025, following the discovery of a narco-submarine in the Camariñas estuary whose cargo was unloaded on Os Muiños beach in Muxía. The Interior Ministry confirmed "the existence of a criminal organisation based in Costa da Morte", specialised in operations at isolated points on the Galician coast that required precise knowledge of the area's geography.
Possible link between the two shipments
Some sources point to the possibility that the A Pobra operation could be linked to the Muxía shipment. Among those arrested at that unloading is a resident of the municipality of A Pobra. Investigators suspect that the cocaine seized on Muxía beach was part of a larger shipment of approximately 3,000 kilos, and that the vessel that carried out the unloading escaped with the rest of the cargo. It is therefore not ruled out that the drug found in A Pobra forms part of that same batch, although the ongoing investigation will need to confirm this.
