Discovery of two bodies with signs of violent death in Cuenca
According to ABC, two people were found dead inside a property located on Calle Mayorazgo in Valverde del Júcar (Cuenca) on Thursday afternoon. The bodies showed signs of violent death. The victim was a 37-year-old woman; the age of the man has not been disclosed.
The alert to the Castilla-La Mancha Emergency Services 112 arrived at 19:43 when a person reported being unable to access the property. Firefighters from Motilla del Palancar, Civil Guard, emergency medical personnel and a psychosocial support team from the Red Cross were dispatched to the scene.
Sources from the regional government confirmed that both were a couple and had two daughters aged 6 and 14. According to the Civil Guard, the woman was not registered in the VioGén system for monitoring domestic violence cases.
The Government Delegation against Gender-Based Violence opened an investigation to determine whether the case constitutes a homicide related to machista violence. The process of official confirmation is still underway.
The president of Castilla-La Mancha, Emiliano García-Page, expressed "profound sadness and consternation" at the facts. "If it is confirmed that we are facing another machista murder, I also feel enormous rage and indignation," said the official, who emphasised that he cannot "resign himself" to continuing to lose lives to gender-based violence.
The adviser for Equality, Sara Simón, reacted to the incident by indicating that "everything points to" a machista murder. The regional government expressed its "energetic condemnation" and offered its support to the family of the victim.
