The arrest took place around 14:30 hours, when National Police officers located the suspect at Álvaro Cunqueiro Hospital in Vigo. The man had gone to the centre to receive psychiatric care after injuring himself. It was there that he admitted to having ended his mother's life at the family home.
Following the alert, Civil Guard officers travelled to the property on Calle Os Carballos and found the victim's body. The woman, who was bedridden due to her state of health, presented multiple knife wounds.
Chronic carer with psychiatric condition
Family acquaintances indicate that the detainee, who suffers from a chronic psychiatric condition, was his mother's regular carer. Officers who carried out the detention observed that the man was not carrying traces of blood on his clothing, suggesting a possible change of clothes after the attack.
The judicial investigation attributes a homicide charge to the arrestee. The scientific police and forensic team will analyse the exact circumstances of the death, whose cause points to the bladed weapon attack. The judicial commission agreed to the removal of the body once the inspection of the scene was completed.
