The National Police have arrested an 85-year-old man in connection with the death of his ex-daughter-in-law, aged 47, found dead with signs of strangulation in the flat they shared at Ferrocarril 30 in the Madrid district of Arganzuela, according to noticiasdenavarra.com.

The alert reached the emergency number 091 at 11.10 hours on Friday. The person who raised the alarm was the son of the detained man—the victim's ex-partner—after his father called him to tell him he had committed "a serious act" and was waiting for the Police to arrive, according to sources from the Madrid Police Superior Headquarters.

Officers from the Citizen Care Unit and health services proceeded to the premises and found the woman lying on the floor, showing no vital signs and with marks of violence. Death was confirmed at the scene. Municipal Police officers, who arrived initially, carried out cardiorespiratory resuscitation procedures upon finding her in apparent cardiac arrest, although the subsequent medical staff certified death.

Carlos Azofra, duty chief of SUMMA112, stated that his team attended to a 47-year-old woman with signs of asphyxia at the property. "When our advanced life support arrived, we were only able to prepare the judicial report, so the body was left in the care of the National Police," Azofra stated.

The spokesman for the Emergency Service 112 of the Madrid Community, Luis Serrano, noted that the autopsy will determine the exact cause of death with precision, although the evidence points to strangulation.

The detained man holds Spanish nationality, whilst the victim is of Asian origin, according to the same police sources, which have emphasised that the other circumstances of the incident remain unknown for now.

The investigation has been placed under the charge of Homicide Group VI, with the support of the Violent Crimes Unit of the Provincial Scientific Police Brigade, which also attended the property.
