Knife attack in Málaga municipality
According to The Olive Press, a British man in his 40s was arrested in Benamargosa after entering several homes and intimidating residents with a knife on Friday night.
Local Police and Civil Guard officers arrested the suspect after residents of the small Málaga municipality alerted the authorities. The individual accessed several properties on Calle Mangas, threatening the residents with the weapon and erratically throwing objects into the street.
During the incident, he assaulted an occupant of one of the properties, a man in his 60s, who sustained injuries initially classified as minor.
The aggressor subsequently went to a local tobacco shop where he threatened a staff member with the knife in what appeared to be an attempted robbery. However, residents intervened, restrained him and prevented him from causing further damage.
Following his arrest, he was taken to a hospital in Vélez-Málaga to undergo medical evaluation, which included a psychological assessment. He remains in custody awaiting appearance before the courts.
The mayor of Benamargosa, Salvador Arcas, expressed his gratitude to the residents and police officers for their response, praising those who intervened to stop the attacker.
