Arrest of Galician publican in anti-drug operation with international ramifications
The Guardia Civil and National Police arrested a well-known local publican in Vilagarcía de Arousa on Monday as part of an operation against drug trafficking and money laundering, according to diariodepontevedra.es. The investigation spans several countries and reaches as far as Dubai.
The arrested man is Óscar A.S., known by the alias Fodoki, who three years ago was involved in an incident in which he escaped from gunfire and a kidnapping attempt. Investigations at the time suggested that the incident was the result of a settling of accounts. Other individuals of Spanish nationality were also captured in the same operation.
Sailing vessel with 2,500 kilos of cocaine intercepted 400 miles from Galicia
In a parallel operation also linked to drug trafficking, the Tax Agency intercepted the Polish-flagged sailing vessel Seute Deern 400 miles off the Galician coast. The vessel was transporting approximately 2,500 kilos of cocaine distributed in 74 packages. Four people of Argentine, Colombian, Uruguayan and Albanian nationality were arrested on board.
Early on Monday, the Customs Surveillance vessel Petrel I docked at the port of Vigo towing the sailing vessel with the arrested crew members. After the packages were unloaded, the Tax Agency's delegate in Galicia, Miguel Cárcaba, confirmed that the operation was carried out as part of an investigation initiated in Catalonia.
In the same investigation, a fifth person, of Chilean nationality, was arrested. He is considered the ringleader of a network dedicated to facilitating vessels for the illicit transport of drugs.
