Two knife attacks shake Ceuta on same day
According to Google News ES — Crime (es), a Moroccan citizen who accessed Ceuta during the invasion was arrested on Thursday after attempting to assault a soldier from a patrol of the 54th Regulars Group with a blade near the port, at around 14:00 hours.
The incident occurred when a worker from the warehouses near the port requested assistance from the military patrol: a Moroccan immigrant had made death threats against employees of the premises. The military personnel initiated a search of the area until they located the subject, who fled on foot and was cornered in an alleyway.
At that moment, the man drew a knife concealed in his clothing and attempted to stab one of the soldiers. The soldier evaded the attack. Subsequently, the members of the patrol subdued and disarmed the attacker. The newspaper Faro de Ceuta had released the information before it was officially disclosed.
Ceuta woman arrested for killing immigrant cousin
A few hours earlier, also on Thursday morning, the National Police arrested a Ceuta resident accused of killing a Moroccan immigrant in her own home, in the Poblado de Regulares neighbourhood. The victim was the detainee's cousin and had entered the autonomous city during the invasion on 30 July.
The woman, according to available information, is believed to have acted under a possible psychotic episode. In the days prior she had already shown behavioural disturbance, and in the hours before the crime had caused damage and an attempted fire in the surrounding area. The argument with her cousin ended with his fatal stabbing.
The National Police arrested the woman and at the time of the incident were continuing to search for the murder weapon, also identified as a knife.
Two events pointing to the same context
Both episodes occurred on the same day and are related to the mass arrival of Moroccan citizens to Ceuta recorded on 30 July. In the first case, the alleged attacker is one of the immigrants who accessed the city at that time; in the second, the victim shares the same origin and migratory status.
The 54th Regulars Group patrol acted without any injuries reported among the military personnel. In the case of the homicide, the police investigation remained open to clarify all details of the incident.
