Young Senegalese man shot after holding couple hostage with knives in Madrid
A man of Senegalese origin armed with knives forced his way into a flat in Fuencarral-El Pardo and held its occupants. The Municipal Police subdued him with a gunshot after a Taser failed.

Madrid's Municipal Police opened fire on a young Senegalese man born in 2001 who on 5 September forced his way into the home of a couple in the Fuencarral-El Pardo district, holding them at knifepoint while repeatedly saying "God is great", according to elconfidencial.com.
The incident began when an emergency call reported an assault on a Metro security guard at Pitis station. When patrols arrived, the suspect fled on foot and attacked officers who attempted to intercept him, according to police sources.
The flight ended at a building on Avenida Ventisquero de la Condesa. The young man forced his way into a couple's flat, which he held them in while brandishing at least three knives and repeatedly shouting the same phrase. Faced with his refusal to stand down, officers deployed a Taser gun.
The discharge had no effect because the suspect was wearing several layers of clothing. The young man managed to cut the device's wires with one of the knives, which led a municipal officer to fire a shot from her service weapon.
The injured man was treated at the scene by Samur-Protección Civil and subsequently transferred to a capital hospital. The same police sources note that his remand in prison once he recovers from the gunshot wounds has not been ruled out.
Municipal Police and National Police personnel participated in the operation. The investigation has been handed over to the National Police's Homicide Unit.
Madrid's deputy mayor and chief of the Security and Emergencies area, Inma Sanz, expressed her support for the units involved at a press conference following the Government Board meeting and called for "discretion" as the investigation progresses.
