Imprisonment for homicide in Benidorm
Provisional imprisonment, with notification and without bail for the man detained over the death of Mariane, a 33-year-old woman, according to elperiodico.com. The Violence Against Women judge at the Court of First Instance in Benidorm ordered his admission on Wednesday afternoon. The man, 40 years old and of Brazilian nationality, is being investigated for a crime of homicide or murder, without prejudice to further qualification.
The two other detainees, both accomplices in concealing the body, were released on provisional liberty but remain under investigation for obstruction. These two men, aged 40 and 45, were the ones who reported the facts to the National Police last weekend after being forced under threats to cooperate.
The crime occurred during the previous weekend, possibly the night of Saturday to Sunday, in a residence in Rincón de Loix, at number 3 Joan Fuster Zaragoza street. Neighbours of the building, which has 22 storeys and houses tourist apartments, heard a loud altercation. The detained man killed Mariane by stabbing after an argument with his sentimental partner.
After the crime, he transported the dismembered body in two suitcases to a wooded area between Benidorm and Finestrat, where he burned it. For this transfer, he coerced the two friends into cooperating. One lent him a car; the other accompanied him during the operation.
When the two accomplices went to the police station to reveal the facts, they facilitated the discovery of both the body and the perpetrator. The victim's body bore several stab wounds and was transported in the early hours of Monday to the Institute of Legal Medicine in Alicante for autopsy.
There are no previous reports of gender-based violence against the detained man in the Viogén system, so there were no recorded prior incidents.
