Spanish police have carried out a search of the headquarters of the Spanish Socialist Workers' Party in Madrid as part of a judicial investigation into alleged financial crimes and corruption.

On Wednesday, the Guardia Civil carried out a search at the central headquarters of the Spanish Socialist Workers' Party (PSOE) in Madrid. The operation is part of a judicial investigation into possible financial crimes and corruption affecting party members.
According to information provided by the Guardia Civil to news agency Associated Press, officers acted on a judicial order to gather documentation relating to an investigation by the National Court. Judge Santiago Pedraz is overseeing this inquiry, which focuses on alleged irregularities committed by former PSOE leader Leire Díez.
The case against Díez opened in 2025, following the publication of audio recordings in which she allegedly participated in attempts to discredit members of the Guardia Civil's anti-corruption unit. Subsequently, she was linked to alleged attempts to influence the work of state prosecutors. The judicial investigation seeks to determine whether she received payments from the party to carry out these actions.
The PSOE has stated that Díez acted on her own. For her part, the former party member, who has already left the party, denies having committed any irregularities.
In a judicial statement released on Wednesday, Judge Pedraz ordered the Guardia Civil to seize "various documents and electronic files" as part of the investigation into a "network designed to destabilise judicial processes" against the party in power.
In addition to Díez, the magistrate is investigating the possible involvement of former Socialist leader Santos Cerdán, already charged in another corruption case, as well as that of a former member of the Andalusian regional government, a police officer, a businessman and two lawyers. All of them are accused of bribery, perjury, falsification of commercial documents, abuse of influence and corruption.
Last week, another court announced that it is investigating former Government President José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero for alleged abuse of influence related to the granting of public aid to an airline. Zapatero denies any irregularities.
Both the wife and brother of current President Pedro Sánchez are being investigated for alleged abuse of influence, accusations which both reject. Furthermore, Santos Cerdán and a former minister in Sánchez's Government are being investigated for their alleged involvement in a scheme of "illegal commissions" during the COVID-19 pandemic.
