Mother and son to stand trial over man's death in Alicante
A jury court has been hearing since Monday the case against a mother and her son accused of involvement in the death of a man in Alicante in September 2023. The Public Prosecutor's office alleges murder against the son and failure to render assistance against the mother.

According to eldebate.com, the Provincial Court of Justice of the Valencian Community began criminal proceedings on Monday 19 October against a man and his mother accused of causing the death of a flatmate. The son is accused of killing the victim; the mother, of cleaning the home before notifying emergency services of what had occurred.
The facts took place in the early hours of 6 to 7 September 2023. The accused went to the flat in Alicante with the intention of recovering objects which, allegedly, the victim had stolen from him during an argument the previous night. According to court sources, during a second altercation at the flat, the defendant assaulted the flatmate with blows, inflicting serious injuries that resulted in his death. He also inflicted cuts on different parts of the body.
The jury must determine whether the defendant's mother, after learning of the facts, travelled from France to Alicante to clean the house instead of alerting the police or emergency services. The man was admitted to Alicante Hospital on the night of 7 September and died the following day. The Public Prosecutor's office accuses the son of murder and the mother of failure to render assistance.
