Gender-based crime confirmed in Valverde de Júcar
According to reports by El Confidencial, the Ministry of Equality confirmed on Friday as a gender-based crime the murder of a 37-year-old woman that occurred in Valverde de Júcar, a locality in the province of Cuenca. With this case, the number of women killed by their partners or ex-partners in 2026 reaches 42 victims.
The victim, mother of two minor daughters, was in the process of separation at the time of her death. She was not registered in the Viogén system for monitoring cases of gender-based violence nor had she filed previous complaints against her partner. The woman's father was the one who alerted authorities after the crime. When the Guardia Civil arrived at the residence at around 20:25 on Thursday, they found the bodies of the woman and her partner, both of Romanian nationality.
Since the registration of these deaths began in 2003, Spain has recorded 1,383 murders due to gender-based violence. The number of minors who have been left orphaned by this type of violence reached 32 cases in 2026 and 542 since 2013. The Minister of Equality, Ana Redondo García, and the Government Delegate Against Gender Violence, Carmen Martínez Perza, expressed in a statement their "most categorical condemnation" and "absolute" rejection of these femicides.
The Ministry of Equality has reminded victims of gender-based violence of available resources.
